Akhon Samoy (Bengali: এখন সময়) is a Bengali language newspaper published from New York, USA since 2000. The paper's theme, as printed in the upper left-hand corner of the editorial page, is "A New Millennium newsweekly" is organized into sections: News, Opinions, International, Literature, Arts, Science, Sports, Health, Women's page, Features and Week's news.

History

The newspaper was founded on 1 January 2000, commemorating the 3rd millennium. Initially it was a monthly newspaper and then it was published in weekly basis from November 2000.

Editor

Kazi Shamsul Hoque, a journalist from Bangladesh is the founder editor of weekly Akhon Samoy , is the Senior Vice President of "USA-Bangladesh Press Club" . Kazi worked in Radio Pakistan, chief reporter of the Daily Sangram, editor of the weekly Sramik Barta and was imprisoned by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's BAKSAL government for a courageous report published in 1975 .

Speciality and Awards

"Akhon Samoy" is famous for its bold and outspoken role about the Bangladesh's political and social issues. It also worked for the expatriate Bangladeshi living in United States, especially, social issues, immigration issues[1] and other community news are published objectively. "Akhon Samoy" has received "Best Objective Journalism Award" by "Federation of Bangladeshi Associations in North America-FOBANA", Toronto, Canada.[2]
